I was disheartened when Stuart Ellsbury had to withdraw as my Vice Captain. However, we have
moved to fill this position and I am pleased to say Steve Tutt has accepted my invitation and he
has been co-opted to the role by the Executive Committee.
Despite the bad weather we managed to hold eight competitions since my last report although
none were qualifying competitions. We held one Scramble, two singles and five pairs (that
included the final two rounds of the Winter League) competitions. Five of these were board
competitions, congratulations to all the winners. We also ran a successful sweep stake for the
US Masters.
Seven players took part in the Harry Gordon trophy, an IWGU event, at Shanklin & Sandown and
16 players (four teams of four) played in IWGA Bennett Cup competition at Westridge.
Our representatives in this year’s Daily Mail Foursomes (Ian Snape and Alan Squibb) won their
second-round match 4 and 3 against Shanklin & Sandown at home. Their opponents were very
complimentary about our course. One of our over 50’s IW Knockout teams had a successful
start beating Newport 7-0 at home.
Members who attended the IWPCSG testing day told me the day was very well run. I have
passed these compliments on to Tony Wheatley.
The next month is busy with fixtures, as well as the general weekend competitions we have the
Club Championship over the weekend of 27/28th and Vice Captains Day on Saturday 13th plus
the following inter club fixtures:
- Two Annodata National Golf Club 5’s first round men’s teams matches – one at home to
Highcliffe Castle, one away at Bramshott Hill. - The County Sevens team first round match away at Cowes.
- A mixed team away at Romsey in their Golf Club Reciprocal Trophy tournament.
- Another Men’s Over 50’s knock-out match at home versus Shanklin and Sandown.
- The start of the IWGU inter league fixtures.
Good luck to all competitors.

- Ladies Captain Report
Since the beginning of March, the course has been difficult with so much rainfall. It seems to be
drying out well now and is looking lush and the greens are shaping up well for the summer.
With the dryer weather, we are certainly seeing more activity in our competitions with 26
players signing up last week between the nine- and 18-hole competitions. Let’s hope the
weather continues to be kind and we can continue to get lots of entries to up and coming
fixtures.
It has been a busy time with outside club competitions and IWLGA leagues. The first Open was
at Westridge Golf Club, with 16 Ryde ladies entering. Whilst not first, we had two out of the
three prizes on offer. Well done to the ladies! In the league, we earned our first two points at

Newport Golf Club against Cowes and at the Sandown and Shanklin Golf Club we earned one
point with a draw.
There were a team of Ryde ladies supporting the fundraiser at Freshwater on Saturday. The
weather was kind, and it was well supported by all the Island clubs with over 100 entrants.
As we move through May, I wish any of the ladies entering the Hampshire Ladies Championships
at Sandown and Shanklin, good luck.
We have 11 teams already entered for the ladies Open at Ryde. We look forward to welcoming
everyone and having a successful day.

- Senior’s Captain Report
A pretty good couple of weeks most competitions played. We have had two friendlies, one at
home and one away. We lost away at New Forest but won at home to Walhampton who
commented on the excellent food we had and the great condition of the course. The Seniors
league starts in May and I’m hoping we have a great year.

subscription runs from. At Ryde it should be from June 1st
